His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Matouq Al-Matouq: Birth and Studies From Kuwait to a Global Leadership

His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Matouq Al-Matouq is a prominent figure in the Ku¬waiti and international arena. He was born in 1957 in the State of Kuwait and has always stood out for his excellence and dedication in many fields, which made him a symbol of national services and achievements. He began his higher education by earning a bachelor’s degree from the Islamic University of Medina in 1983 and con¬tinued his academia by earning a master’s degree from Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University in Medina in 1985. He excelled in his studies and worked hard to develop his skills and knowledge. The most important moment in his academic career was earning a doctorate in comparative jurisprudence from the University of Glasgow in Britain in 1996. This higher degree gave him the opportunity to expand his knowledge as he becomes an expert in many fields. His Excellency Dr. Al-Matouq returned to Kuwait and began his academic and educational career. He was appointed Head of the Department of Islamic Studies at the College of Basic Education in 1999. Since 1996, he has worked as a lecturer at the College of Basic Education at the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training. However, His Excellency Dr. Al-Matouq was not content with working in the ac¬ademic field only, as he led an outstanding career in the government as well, where he served as Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in the Kuwaiti Council of Minis¬ters during the period from June 2003 to March 2007. He also assumed the office as Minister of Justice in Kuwait from February 2006 until March 2007. After the end of his term in government, His Excellency Dr. Al-Matouq returned to the field of education and consultation and was appointed as an advisor at the Amiri Diwan in the State of Kuwait from 2010 until 2021, where he provided valu¬able guidance and strategic advice for a better governance. His Excellency Dr. Al-Matouq also shone in the international landscape, as he was appointed as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Envoy for Humanitarian Affairs in November 2012. This high international position reflects great confidence in his abilities and experience. His appointment with this capacity was extended for four consecutive terms until December 2016. His brilliance was clear and exceptional, as he was the first Arab official to hold this UN position with such skill. In March 2017, he was appointed as a special ad¬viser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations with the rank as Under-Secre¬tary-General. His brilliance was not limited to this extent only, as his appointment for the position was renewed for a second term in 2018, a third term in 2019, a fourth in 2020, a fifth in 2021, a sixth in 2022, and a seventh in 2023, respectively. In addition to these government positions and international responsibilities, His Excellency Dr. Al-Matouq holds many important positions, including Board Chair¬man of the International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO) and Vice-Chairman of the International Islamic Council for Da’wah and Relief (IICDR). His career en¬compasses science with national and humanitarian service, which has made him a respected and trusted figure on various fields in the world. Dr. Abdullah Matouq Al-Matouq is considered a role model in serving society and promoting Islamic val¬ues and principles notionally and internationally.
