The role of His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Al-Matouq in national and internation¬al humanitarian work is not limited to the international framework, but extends to his support and promotion of humanitarian work in Kuwait and the region. Dr. Al-Ma¬touq has actively supported charitable associations and organisations in Ku¬wait by providing guidance and advice and directing funding and resources to local humanitarian projects. Promoting Awareness of Humanitarian Action: H.E. Dr. Al-Matouq has encour¬aged the promotion of awareness of humanitarian issues in Kuwait through awareness campaigns and educational events. These efforts have contributed to attracting support and participation of the local community in humanitar¬ian work. International humanitarian work: Chaired the four NGO donor conferences for the Syrian people organized by the International Islamic Charitable Organisation during the following years (2013-2014-2015-2016), which managed to collect pledges worth more than one billion dollars ($1,317,510,000), State of Kuwait. The State of Kuwait failed in its contribution ceremony in support of the re¬sponse to the Syrian crisis in April 2014 with 250 million dollars, as well as June 2015 with 311 million dollars. Participated as a keynote speaker at Expo Milano on the occasion of the first anniversary of His Highness the Amir being awarded the title of Humanitar¬ian Leader and the selection of Kuwait as a global humanitarian center Milan - Italy - September 2015. He chaired the meetings of the Senior Donor Group during the preparation for the Second International Conference to support the humanitarian situation in Syria based on a proposal by former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to create a group of major donor countries for the conference. The idea behind the establishment of the Senior Donor Group for Syria was to create a platform for senior donors to discuss issues related to funding strategies and disbursement of funds in order to increase effectiveness, avoid duplication and complement existing coordination mechanisms, as Dr. Al- Matouq chaired the first meet¬ing on March 18, 2014 to the ninth meeting held in Kuwait on January 16, 2017. Dr. Al-Matouq adopted and launched this ambitious initiative that aims to feed a billion hungry people around the world. The initiative was implemented in cooperation with the United Nations and several international, local and regional organizations.
